Wilderness First Aid Course

WHO IS THE WFA FOR?

Wilderness First Aid (WFA) is the perfect course for the outdoor enthusiast or trip leader who wants a basic level of first aid training for short trips with family, friends, and outdoor groups. It also meets the American Camp Association guidelines. Students must be 14 years of age or older to participate.

Since 1976 SOLO Wilderness Medicine has taught over 300,000 people the vital skills of wilderness medicine, teaching courses across the country and around the world.

Wilderness First Aid is SOLO's most popular course and it creates a solid foundation in the basics of backcountry medical care. Started as the "Mountain/Woods First Aid" course in 1975, this was the first course of its kind in the United States, and it is the curriculum upon which all other backcountry medicine courses are based.

WHAT IS TAUGHT?

The WFA is 16 hours long (two days), and focuses on the basic skills of: Response and Assessment, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Environmental Emergencies, Survival Skills, Soft Tissue Injuries, and Medical Emergencies.

WHERE AND WHEN IS IT BEING HELD?

The WFA course will be held February 17-19, 2017 on the campus of Pine Mountain Settlement School in Bledsoe, KY. PMSS is located in southeast Kentucky in Harlan County.

*Please indicate at the time of registration if you would like to take the CPR certification offered during the course. There is an extra $35 fee for this add-on

Rates
$200 includes tuition, meals, and lodging. (Additional $35 if you register to take the CPR certification)

Lodging
Lodging is provided on Friday and Saturday nights. Visitors may stay in dormitory or cottage-style housing. Bathrooms are shared. Single rooms available upon request.

Meals
Meals are provided from Friday dinner through Sunday lunch. Homegrown vegetables are served as much as possible. Vegetarians options are available with advance notice.

Advance Deposit
A non-refundable advance deposit of $50.00 per person is required at the time of registration and will apply to the total cost of the event. Lodging is not guaranteed without deposit.
